UMVA has learned that Michael Carrick is on the cusp of becoming the permanent manager of Manchester United, despite doubts from a prominent former Red Devils captain.

The interim boss has impressed in his role, leading the team to a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, securing a third-place finish in the Premier League and guaranteeing a spot in the Champions League.

However, Roy Keane, a stalwart of the Manchester United faithful, has expressed concerns about Carrick's ability to tackle the significant challenges ahead, including recruitment, adding physicality to the midfield, and addressing the team's goal-scoring woes.

Keane, speaking on Sky Sports, acknowledged that Carrick has done a commendable job in stabilizing the team and winning matches, but warned that the bigger picture is still a concern.

‘There are still huge problems ahead,’ Keane said. ‘Recruitment, getting players in, getting some physicality in the middle of the park, stop giving up the amount of goals they’ve been giving, that’s now the bigger picture he’s got to try and fix.’

Keane also questioned whether Carrick has the experience to cope with the inevitable ups and downs of the season, pointing out that his previous managerial experience is limited to spells at Middlesbrough and the youth team at United.

Despite these reservations, the Manchester United hierarchy appears to be leaning towards appointing Carrick permanently, with Keane suggesting that they may have taken a safer option after the disastrous appointment of Ruben Amorim.

‘It seems like a safe decision from the club’s point of view,’ Keane said. ‘Carrick’s come in and settled everybody down and they’ve won some football matches. To me, it’s the safest decision and sometimes there’s nothing wrong with that.’
