EUROPE'S WAR GAME: Kubilius Reveals SHOCKING Security Shift!

A fundamental question hangs over Europe’s security: does the European Union possess not just a defence clause, but a genuine, actionable plan to back it up? This critical inquiry surfaced during a recent discussion with Andrius Kubilius, the European Commissioner for Defence and Space, in Brussels.

Kubilius delivered a stark message – the EU must aggressively bolster its own defence industries and drastically reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers, particularly the United States, for vital military technologies and equipment. This isn’t simply about economic independence; it’s about safeguarding Europe’s future on the battlefield.

He warned of a potential shift in the geopolitical landscape, specifically a possible decrease in the US military presence within Europe. This looming possibility underscores the urgent need for the EU to cultivate genuine strategic autonomy, becoming a more self-reliant force for its own protection.

The Commissioner also cautioned that support for Ukraine from Washington may wane as global focus pivots towards escalating tensions in Iran. This potential redirection of resources adds another layer of complexity, demanding that Europe prepare to shoulder a greater share of the burden.

Article 42.7 of the Treaty on European Union, the EU’s mutual defence clause, remains largely untested. Kubilius stressed the necessity of developing a clear “playbook” – a detailed, pre-defined set of procedures – to ensure the clause is effective and rapidly deployable when a member state is attacked.

Beyond immediate military preparedness, Kubilius highlighted the strategic importance of EU enlargement. He pointed to Lithuania’s own experience, joining the EU in 2004, as a powerful example of how integration fosters economic growth, social stability, and ultimately, a stronger, more secure Europe.

These factors – economic prosperity, social development, and stability – are not merely desirable outcomes, but essential foundations for a robust and future-proof European defence capability. Investing in enlargement, therefore, is an investment in collective security.
