A 25-year-old man, described as a loving son whose smile could light up a room, was gunned down in the early hours of Saturday. Keanu Taylor was rushed to hospital after multiple shots rang out on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton, but died from his injuries.
Now a memorial blooms at the crime scene—dozens of bouquets, a photograph, and the raw grief of a family shattered. His father placed the picture there, a silent tribute to a life stolen in a heartbeat.
His family released a statement that cuts straight to the bone: “Keanu was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and friend. He was loved by everyone. He had the world at his feet, and he’s left a huge hole in our family. Our hearts are absolutely broken.”
A friend described him as a big-hearted guy who loved his family. “He was innocent. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Another echoed the sentiment: “It’s always the innocent who suffer. He wasn’t in a gang or anything like that. This type of thing is a danger to us in the community.”
Police arrived within four minutes, emergency first aid was given—but it wasn’t enough. Detectives have since scoured the area for bullet casings, collected CCTV footage, and launched a forensic analysis. No arrests have been made yet.
The shooting on Brixton’s Coldharbour Lane has left locals reeling. The stretch of road is already known to locals as “murder mile”—just yards from where 22-year-old Keelen Wong was fatally stabbed in October 2023. Now two young men’s memorials stand heartbreakingly close.
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, leading the investigation, called it “a shocking act of violence” that has devastated the community. “We are working urgently to identify and apprehend those responsible,” he said. Extra patrols will remain in the area for days, a visible reminder of a life cut short and a city on edge.
