La Voix Discusses Representation on EastEnders: "Straight People Have Equality Every Day

La Voix, a drag icon and RuPaul's Drag Race UK finalist, is set to make a special appearance on BBC soap EastEnders as part of the show's annual Pride celebrations.

La Voix will be performing at the Queen Vic, one of the show's most iconic locations, after being tricked into doing so by the show's characters.

In an interview, La Voix described her experience filming on EastEnders as "the strangest experience" she has ever had.

She explained that stepping into the world of EastEnders was surreal, as she felt like she had been there her whole life, despite never having physically visited the set.

La Voix's episode is set to air on Thursday, July 2, as part of the show's Pride celebrations, which she is very excited about.

La Voix spoke about the importance of LGBTQ+ representation on TV, particularly in areas where there is a lack of exposure to LGBTQ+ issues.

"If I'd had knowledge in my local town, once a year, there was an afternoon or a festival where I could meet other people in my community would have helped massively with feeling connected at school, with helping with things like bullying or just knowing where your place was," she said.

La Voix praised EastEnders for bringing LGBTQ+ issues into living rooms, making it more relatable and helping to break down barriers.

"I just celebrate them for moving with the times and not keeping those characters and those real life issues off somewhere like Albert Square," she said.

La Voix is no stranger to the BBC, having competed on Drag Race UK and Strictly Come Dancing, and she described getting the call to appear on EastEnders as "the sort of call you just dream about."

She joked about the experience, saying "all I need to do now is film a mating ritual with a squid with David Attenborough!"

La Voix's role on EastEnders sees her show off her improvisation skills, treating her performance like a real pub gig and riffing off the punters.

However, she joked that there was too much improvisation and that she had taken on the role of scriptwriter herself.

La Voix is hoping for a more permanent spot in Walford, saying "she needs to buy a terraced house and move into the square."

As for her cameo this week, it sounds like there's plenty of drama to come for fans, with La Voix promising a "good old bit of a Queen Vic argument" and a dramatic ending.

La Voix's episode will be available to watch from 6am on Thursday morning, a commitment that she humorously described as "watching it before your breakfast!"
