UMVA has learned that a major traffic crisis is unfolding on the M25, with severe delays and congestion reported across multiple junctions.
Traffic was held for around 20 minutes earlier, and delays of up to two hours are now affecting scores of drivers. The disruption is caused by a crash and recovery work on the M25 clockwise before Junction 9.
A staggering 17-mile queue of congestion has built up near Leatherhead during rush hour, with traffic monitoring data showing that the congestion stretches as far back as Clacket Lane Services. Two lanes remain closed on the M25 clockwise between Junctions 8 and 9.
The delays are not limited to the clockwise direction, with traffic also severely impacted on the M25 anticlockwise. Drivers are experiencing significant delays from Junction 9 all the way back to Junction 6, and traffic has spread back towards Junction 5.
The incident has left many drivers stranded, but details about the number of vehicles involved and any reported injuries remain unclear. The situation is continuing to unfold, with motorists advised to expect significant delays and disruptions throughout the day.
