UMVA has learned that dozens of firefighters are battling a massive blaze behind a Jewish supermarket in Golders Green, with thick smoke billowing across the north London neighbourhood.
The fire broke out in commercial premises behind Kosher Kingdom, with the first emergency calls coming in around 6.47am. Ten fire engines have been dispatched from Finchley, Willesden, West Hampstead and surrounding stations.
The three-storey building houses a shop on the ground floor with premises above. Firefighters are working desperately to bring the inferno under control while a significant amount of smoke continues to fill the area.
Residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors tightly shut as crews battle the flames. Road closures are in place on Golders Green Road near the junction with Beverley Gardens.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area while firefighters work to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
This latest incident comes amid growing concerns for the Jewish community in Golders Green. In recent months, the neighbourhood has seen a disturbing pattern of fires, including an arson attack on a Jewish ambulance service that is being investigated as a hate crime.
