Aubrey PlazaandAmy Poehlerstarred as gay, gun-obsessed lesbians in aSaturday Night Live(SNL) parody ofThe Hunting Wivesat the weekend.
During the show, hosted byParks and Recreation’s Poehler, the pre-taped sketch offered a steamy take on theforthcoming second seasonof the murder mystery that follows thelesbian affairsof wives of unsuspecting MAGA-loving, gun-toting men.
Shot like a fake trailer, SNL label it “the straight but lesbian horny Republican murder drama”.
The sketch began withMargo, played here by Poehler, flashing her (blurred) breasts atChloe Fineman’s renditionof Sophie.
“All your faves are back and they’re as naughty as ever,” a narrator said. “Thighs will be squeezed, guns will be drawn… People magazine said thatThe Hunting Wiveswas likeCall Me By Your Namefor women who shop at Bass Pro Shop.”
Fans were quick to respond online. One personwrote: “‘It’s like ifThe L Wordtook place inYellowstone.” Someone else said: “Exactly how I want season two to go.”
‘This is the best thing I’ve ever seen’
ThenAgatha All Alongstar Plaza showed up and all the attention turned to her… until she mentioned she had a girlfriend – prompting the women to pull out their guns.
It seems the original cast ofThe Hunting Wivesloved the spoof. Malin Akerman, who plays Margo, reposted the clip onInstagram, writing: “This is the best thing I’ve ever seen.”
Commenting on the repost, Brittany Snow, who plays Sophie, said: “I’m so gladSNLgot hold of our deleted scenes.”
The Netflix drama, based on a novel by May Cobb, follows Sophie moving to the fictional Texas town of Maple Brook with her husband. She finds herself attracted to an elite clique but becomes snared in a web of secrets when the body of a teenage girl is found in the woods.
Last month, the streaming service announced that a second season had been given the go-ahead.
