Drag queen legendTrixie Mattelhas revived her hilarious ‘Drag Queen Storytime’ segment onJimmy Kimmel Live, making fun of businessman and now authorEric Trump’s new memoir.
TheDrag Raceicon certainly didn’t pull her punches as she read the right-wingbookto a group of children.
In Wednesday’s (15 October) monologue, Kimmel confirmed the return of ‘Drag Queen Storytime’ to “build a bridge and to join hands through literature.” The book in question wasPresident Donald Trump’s third child’s memoir,Under Siege: My Family’s Fight to Save Our Nation.
The return of this segment comes a few weeks after Jimmy Kimmel’s show wastaken off air, but then reinstated, following his comments about thedeath of Charlie Kirk.
The concept of adrag queen even being in the same room as childrenhas been a heated talking point with Republicans. There have been multiple attempts to restrict drag queens from accessing spaces where children may be. Particular emphasis has been on Drag Queen Storytime events, like the one recreated on air.
That is explicitly called out in Mattel’s opening moments, where she asks the children: “Do I scare any of you?”
The kids all answer no, laughing. One even replies: “You just look amazing. Why would that be scary?”
‘Eric isn’t potty trained’
“Well, I have a whole pile of books here. What if we chose one together?” Mattel went on. “Because this is, after all, a democracy. As of this morning, it’s still a democracy. I’m not sure.”
Mattel then asked if the kids would like her to read a book by Donald Trump. The question was met with a chorus of groans.
“Hold up! What about President Trump’s least favourite son?” The response from the young listeners only continues with “NO”.
“Listen, we have to pay respect because his ghost writer worked really hard on this,” Mattel quipped.
“Is everyone here potty-trained? Eric isn’t potty trained.” Mattel continued. She then read a number of extracts from the book, including Eric’s statement that his father has “a heart of gold.”
One child asked Mattel to pause before suggesting that, instead of skipping that page, they should “skip the entire book.”
By this point, the children are completely bored with the book and request lunch be brought forward.
Mattel then brings the kids outside for a “special science experiment” where they throw a copy ofUnder Siegeinto a wood chipper.
“This might not be a great book, but it’s going to make excellent confetti,” Mattel announced.
Jimmy Kimmel’s Drag Queen Storytime first started back in 2023 when Trixie Mattel readTed Cruz’s book,Unwoke: How to Defeat Cultural Marxismin America. The idea was to give young people a chance to “decide on their own what they think about it.”
