Human remains have been discovered in northern Ontario as part of a Windsor homicide investigation into the death of 37-year-old David Pavao, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

OPP announced Friday evening that the remains were located near Bourkes Road, south of the Black River–Matheson Township, about an hour east of Timmins.

The remains were found on Oct. 17 by the OPP north east region crime unit during an evidence search involving specialized teams, including forensic identification services and the canine unit.

The search was conducted under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch in support of Windsor police.

Police have not confirmed the identity of the remains.

Investigators with the Windsor police major crimes unit have determined Pavao was allegedly killed on or around Aug. 14. He had been reported missing earlier that month.
