Horrorfans, listen up! Here’s everything you need to know about upcomingTV seriesIt: Welcome to Derry.And no, it’s not anItandDerry Girlscrossover… sadly.
HBO’s new show is a nine-episode series that will serve as a prequel toStephen King’sbest-selling, terrifying story about Pennywise, an ancient, evil creature who often appears as a clown. It has been developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, all of whom were involved in the 2017 film.
It’s not the first small-screen adaptation of the story, there was also a two-part mini-series in the early 90s, starringRocky Horror‘s Tim Curry andBuffy the Vampire Slayer’s werewolf Seth Green.

What isIt: Welcome to Derryabout?
The series has been mapped out as a three-season story, to be told in reverse. Events begin in 1962 when a couple move toDerrywith their son, just as disturbing incidents begin to unfold.
Andy Muschietti, who directed bothItandIt Chapter Two(2019), toldRadio TUthat a second and third season would jump back in time to explore earlier events.
“For 27 years, it’s the guy trying to figure out what it is, what did it, who did it, who saw it, and all that stuff.
“They talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire in the Black Spot… the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the 30s… and the explosion at the Kitchener Ironworks. Every time [evil clown Pennywise] comes out of hibernation, there is a catastrophic event that happens at the beginning of that cycle.

Who’s in theIt: Welcome to Derrycast?
The cast features a mix of newcomers and well-known stars.
Alongside Bill Skarsgård reprising his movie role ofPennywise, youngsters Blake Cameron James, Clara Stack andRudy Mancusowill make their debut.
More established names in the cast include Chris Chalk, who played Lucius Fox inGotham,Dexter’s James Remar, queer star Tyner Rushing, who played Virginia Creel inStranger Things, and Hollywood veteran Madeleine Stowe.
