ACOCKTAILbar in Edinburgh’shistoric Old Townwill close its doors and serve its last drinks at the start of October.
Under the Stairs did not go into specifics about why it is set to close, only saying that it is making way for TheCocktail Geeksto take over the premises.
The owners of Under the Stairs expressed thanks to staff and patrons for their generosity and help in making the bar what it was over the years.
On its final day of operation, Saturday, November 1, Under the Stairs will keep the kitchen open late and have a special send-off night with DJ Rob Ralston from 10pm.

The bar will not sit empty for long, however, and The Cocktail Geeks are expected to move in shortly after Under the Stairs’ final day of operation.
Under the Stairs is a cocktail bar nestled in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, just off Candlemaker Row on Merchant Street.
As its name suggests, the cocktail bar/restaurant is tucked under the stairs in a basement property on Merchant Street.
To match the low-key facade and street appeal, the bar is described as “cosy, casual, shabby chic, followers of no trends, just a purpose to make you feel at home”.
Under the Stairs aimed to support local and small producers and provide a modest, well-formed and original list of drinks.
The owners of the bar said in a statement on Sunday: “After 17 years we’ve (finally) decided to hang up our bar towels and seek new adventures.
“The biggest heartfelt thanks to all our customers, suppliers, DJs, friends and family who continuously supported us through highs and lows, tears and laughter, new menus and New Years’ celebrations for almost two decades.
“It’s been some journey.”
They reserved special mention for the staff who have come and gone and helped run the place for 17 years.
They said: “Our incredible staff – just wow, you put up with us for so long. Not to mention the relentless festival chaos year after year.
“We’re forever grateful for your efforts in that kitchen inferno, last minute shift covers, late nights and ‘team meetings’.
“How lucky we’ve been to work with you and become friends beyond these walls.”
They did not specify exactly why they are closing their doors.
They continued: “Our last night will be Sat 1 November; end of an era so obviously there has to be a fitting Under the Stairs send-off.
“Kitchen will be open until 9.45pm and Rob Ralston will be on the decks from 10pm for 90s set.
“Join us for super scran and one last dance around the tables.
“Moving in will be the awesome and innovative Cocktail Geeks. We wish them every success and so look forward to raising a glass in their new venture.
“Until then, we’ll still be doing what UTS does best, so come down those stairs and see us (and the fish) before we go.”
Until its final, extended, night, Under the Stairs will be open from 4pm-11pm/12am from Monday to Thursday, 2pm–12am/1am on Friday and Saturday, and 2pm-11pm/12am on Sunday.
Under the Stairs has been approached for comment.
