Repairs take place on manhole cover leaking water onto road in Edinburgh

SCOTTISH Waterhas carried out repairs on a leakymanhole coverwhich was creating a hazard for motorists in theMorningsidearea.

Workers were, however, unable to complete the works due to other ongoing roadworks in the area and will return tomorrow to finish the job, withtemporary traffic lightsin place until Tuesday.

Scottish Water attended to the issue on Monday, with the issue first reported to its team over the preceding weekend by concerned locals.

According to a post on a local Facebook group, the manhole cover had been leaking water onto the surface of the road and creating trouble for motorists.

Pictures shared showed surface water covering a large patch of the road at the junction of Cluny Gardens and Hermitage Gardens.

Scottish Water is planning on reattending the scene tomorrow to finish the works.

Residents had reportedly initially been told that Scottish Water was waiting on permission from the City of Edinburgh Council to erect temporary traffic lights.

The situation was further complicated by the presence of two sets of traffic restrictions already in place nearby, restricting access to Scottish Water teams.

Their teams will, however, return tomorrow to finish the works and install three-way temporary traffic lights.

A Scottish Water Spokesperson said: “Our team attended this issue earlier in the week but were unable to carry out a repair safely due to other works and traffic management in the area.

“Those works have now been completed, and we are planning to return to carry out the repair tomorrow (FRI).

“Three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place while the work is carried out, and we expect the repair to be complete, and the road reinstated by Tuesday evening.

“We’d like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding while we complete this essential work.”
