The White Househas responded to news of Halo coming to thePS5, as PresidentDonald Trumpseemingly tries to take credit for ending another war.

The announcement ofHalo: Campaign Evolved for PlayStation 5is significant in many ways, but you would hope that the White House had more important things to worry about than video game console wars.

This dystopian crossover has become a sad reality thanks to AI and GameStop, after theUSretailer boldly declared the console wars to be over – in light of Master Chief’s appearance onSony’s console next year.

In a social media post titled ‘GameStop declares the console wars over’, the retailer wrote: ‘All claims to exclusivity are hereby dissolved. Console loyalists are instructed to cease hostilities, disband militias, and enjoy this new era of gaming.’

This frivolous post went viral, to the point where it caught the attention of The White House’s official X account. In response, they shared an AI generated image of President Donald Trump in Master Chief’s Spartan suit, wielding a energy sword in front of the American flag.

‘Power to the players,’ the post’s caption reads.

It’s probably worth mentioning that the US flag is never seen in the Halo games, with the country instead portrayed as being part of the United Republic of North America (URNA) – with Canada and Mexico – following what is implied to be a second US civil war, that saw the country break apart.

If you weren’t already questioning the reality we’ve found ourselves in, GameStop shared an AI image in response showing vice presidentJD Vance, in one of hismany memed forms, as Cortana.

‘Four generations from now, people are going to think this is real,’ oneX user wrotein response. Anotheradded: ‘What timeline did I end up in?’

Trump might be celebrating the end of the console wars (or trying to take credit for ending them, like he has withother actual wars), but his impact on the gaming space has been nothing but negative, thanks to his imposed tariffs on other countries.Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have allraised console pricesaround the world in light of the tariffs, in an attempt to recoup costs.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake of 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved, which launched on the original Xbox. This new version sports HD visuals, refined controls, additional missions, and support for four player online co-op – but no competitive multiplayer.

Along with Xbox Series X/S and PC, it’s set to be released on PlayStation 5 in 2026, the year in which Xbox celebrates its 25th anniversary.
