The revelation has stirred a decades-old question: did Freddie Mercury have a secret daughter? A new biography, “Love, Freddie,” claims a woman known only as B is the product of a 1976 encounter between the iconic singer and a close friend’s wife.
Brian May, Queen’s legendary guitarist, and his wife, actress Anita Dobson, were reportedly taken aback by the claims. Dobson, a longtime friend of Mercury, expressed her disbelief, stating that May considers the story “a load of rubbish.”
Dobson emphasized the depth of her own friendship with Freddie, suggesting he would have confided in her if such a significant secret existed. The timing of the revelation – decades after the alleged affair – also raised questions in their minds.
Despite skepticism, Dobson acknowledged a desire to meet the woman claiming to be Mercury’s daughter. She pondered the possibility of unknown children, attributing the intense interest to Mercury’s enduring iconic status.
The woman, B, asserts a close and loving relationship with Mercury, spanning from her birth through the final fifteen years of his life. She describes being “cherished like a treasured possession” despite the unusual circumstances of her conception.
However, Mary Austin, Mercury’s former partner and the inheritor of a substantial portion of his estate, has publicly expressed doubt. She finds it difficult to believe Mercury would have concealed such a joyful event from those closest to him.
Austin believes that if a daughter had existed, it would have brought Mercury immense happiness, as well as joy to his parents and loved ones. Yet, she recalls no conversations with Mercury about his desire to start a family.
She imagines his parents would have welcomed a daughter with open arms, but maintains that Mercury never spoke of wanting to create a family. The claims have reopened a chapter of speculation surrounding the private life of a musical genius.
