FINALLY HOME: Israel Mourns Hero After 11 Years Lost in Gaza!

A nation breathed a collective sigh, a weight of eleven years finally lifting, as Lieutenant Hadar Goldin was laid to rest in Kfar Saba. Hundreds gathered, a sea of grief and remembrance, to honor a soldier brought home after a decade lost to the sands of Gaza.

The military cemetery overflowed with mourners, some seeking a vantage point on rooftops, others seated before a large screen, all united in their sorrow. Israeli flags rippled in the breeze, a stark backdrop to the portraits of a young life cut short, and a banner proclaiming a vow: “We will remember forever.”

Hadar’s remains were returned as part of a fragile ceasefire, a testament to relentless negotiation. His father, Simcha Goldin, spoke not of vengeance, but of virtue, urging those gathered to embrace a legacy of righteousness and unity. “Let there be a little more of Hadar in our daily lives,” he pleaded, a father’s love echoing through the crowd.

Mourners carry a portrait of Hadar Goldin, killed in combat in Gaza in 2014, during his funeral Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025 after his remains were returned by Hamas.

He was just twenty-three years old when he fell on August 1, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge. Leading a mission to dismantle Hamas tunnels, he was ambushed during a brief humanitarian pause, his body taken, leaving a void that haunted a family and a country.

For Israel Blumshtein, a 76-year-old resident of Kfar Saba, the return was the fulfillment of a long-held hope. He had carried Hadar’s picture in his car for six years, a silent vigil, a symbol of a promise kept: “In our army… we do not leave anyone anywhere.”

Hadar’s twin brother, Tzur, spoke of the insidious intent behind the hostage-taking – a deliberate attempt to fracture Israeli society, to pit individual grief against collective strength. He declared their victory would be in upholding the nation’s core principle: leaving no one behind.

A symbolic funeral was held years ago, after fragments of Hadar’s remains were recovered, but the hope for a complete return never faded. The agonizing wait, finally over, brought a measure of relief, as Aharon Gamzu, a software engineer, expressed, “It’s some kind of relief because he’s been there for more than 11 years.”

The crowd wasn’t simply there for Hadar; they were there for each other, for the shared values of duty and remembrance. Einat Carmel Gamzu, standing beside her husband, emphasized the importance of honoring both the fallen soldier and his grieving family, a collective expression of national solidarity.

Since the recent truce, Hamas has released all twenty living hostages and the remains of twenty-four others, a painful reminder of the cost of conflict. Yet, even now, the remains of four more taken during the October 7th attack remain in Gaza, a stark indication that the struggle for closure continues.
