GAMBLING UNDERWORLD EXPOSED: Mob Infiltrates Youth Sports! [VIDEO]

GAMBLING UNDERWORLD EXPOSED: Mob Infiltrates Youth Sports! [VIDEO]

A shadow has fallen over New Jersey sports, revealing a sophisticated illegal gambling operation with roots stretching into the lives of young athletes. Fourteen individuals now face indictment, accused of participating in a sprawling network fueled by ambition and illicit profits.

At the center of the scheme stands 55-year-old Joseph M. “Little Joe” Perna, identified as the mastermind. But this wasn’t a solitary endeavor; Perna’s family – sons, stepson, and nephews – were deeply embedded within the organization, facing charges of racketeering, conspiracy, and money laundering.

The operation’s reach extended far beyond family ties. Young men, barely out of high school and college, were recruited as agents, managing their own mini-sportsbooks under the Pernas’ umbrella. These weren’t seasoned gamblers, but students and athletes, drawn into a world of easy money and dangerous connections.

Investigators discovered a chilling strategy: targeting those with access to funds, or those who could be pressured into payment. College students and, crucially, student athletes became prime recruits, their vulnerabilities exploited for financial gain. The details of which schools were involved remain undisclosed, adding to the unsettling nature of the case.

Over two years, the enterprise allegedly moved approximately $2 million in suspected gambling transactions. The network thrived by tapping into a new generation of gamblers – Gen Z – and leveraging the social connections of the Perna family’s younger members.

The indictment includes former Rutgers University wrestlers, Michael Cetta and Nicholas Raimo, a two-time state wrestling champion. Their involvement underscores the insidious reach of the operation, penetrating the world of collegiate athletics.

This bust isn’t an isolated incident. It’s part of a growing trend of investigations into illegal sports betting, following recent indictments against Major League Baseball pitchers accused of intentionally manipulating games to profit from wagers. The integrity of sports, it seems, is increasingly under threat.

Authorities revealed the scheme wasn’t simply about taking bets; it was about exploiting trust and leveraging influence. The investigation continues, promising further revelations about the extent of this clandestine operation and the damage it inflicted.
