BIDEN'S BLUNDER: US FORCES LEFT DEFENSELESS Against Terror!

BIDEN'S BLUNDER: US FORCES LEFT DEFENSELESS Against Terror!

A chilling reality is unfolding in the Sahel region of West Africa: U.S. forces, tasked with battling al Qaeda and ISIS, are operating with what one source describes as “completely blind” intelligence. The loss of critical surveillance capabilities has created a dangerous void, hindering efforts to respond to escalating threats and locate kidnapped American citizens.

Until recently, two American airbases in Niger served as vital hubs for surveillance drones. These drones, equipped with advanced technology, pierced through dense forests, providing crucial intelligence on terrorist group movements. They were instrumental in the 2020 rescue of an American hostage, a mission executed by the elite Seal Team Six.

Niger, however, desired the continued U.S. presence. The turning point came in March of last year, following a contentious meeting with a U.S. delegation led by a senior State Department official. Niger’s government publicly condemned what they perceived as a “condescending attitude” and an attempt to dictate partnerships, ultimately demanding the departure of all American personnel.

The delegation, according to multiple sources, directly challenged Niger’s burgeoning relationships with Russia and Iran, hinting at potential sanctions. One account described the exchange as a “flame spraying,” a forceful demand that ultimately led to the U.S. being expelled. Niger’s leaders felt their sovereignty was undermined.

The official, defending her actions, maintained she was simply delivering a policy directive approved by the White House. She characterized the backlash as an attempt to deflect from legitimate concerns about Niger’s choices, but the damage was done. Within months, the airbases were abandoned, and the drones were grounded.

The consequences were immediate and severe. The then-Commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) warned of a surge in attacks by violent extremist organizations, not only within Niger but across the broader Sahel region, including Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Mali. The withdrawal had created a power vacuum, allowing terror groups to expand their capabilities and stockpile weapons.

AFRICOM is now severely limited, relying on a single base in Djibouti and smaller forces in Somalia and Kenya. Years of budget cuts have left the command stretched thin, struggling to monitor a vast and increasingly volatile region. The loss of Niger represents a critical intelligence failure.

The recent kidnapping of an American citizen underscores the gravity of the situation. Without the “eyes in the sky” once provided by the Niger bases, locating the hostage is proving exceptionally difficult. A military source bluntly stated that a rescue mission, while possible, is currently hampered by a lack of actionable intelligence – “first we have to find the guy.”

Even satellite surveillance, typically a reliable alternative, is hampered by the harsh conditions of the Sahel. The region’s intense heat and atmospheric conditions limit the effectiveness of these systems, leaving U.S. forces operating in a dangerous information blackout. The situation paints a stark picture of a region spiraling into instability, and a critical loss of American influence.
