TRUMP'S CNN NIGHTMARE: Lawsuit EXPLODES in His Face!

TRUMP'S CNN NIGHTMARE: Lawsuit EXPLODES in His Face!

A legal battle waged by a former president against a major news network has reached its conclusion. A federal appeals court recently affirmed the dismissal of a lawsuit brought by the former president against CNN, stemming from their description of his repeated claims about the 2020 election.

The core of the dispute centered around CNN’s use of the phrase “Big Lie” to characterize the former president’s assertions that the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent. The former president argued this phrase deliberately linked him to the propaganda tactics of Adolf Hitler, a deeply damaging association.

He initially sought $475 million in damages, alleging CNN intentionally sought to connect him with a figure widely considered one of history’s most abhorrent. However, the original case was dismissed by District Court Judge Raag Singhal, an appointee of the former president himself.

A US appeals court has upheld the dismissal of a defamation lawsuit President Donald Trump filed against CNN.

Judge Singhal determined that CNN’s statements were expressions of opinion, not demonstrably false factual claims, and therefore not grounds for a successful defamation suit. This assessment was crucial, establishing a high bar for proving defamation in such a context.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals panel concurred with this assessment. Composed of three judges, including two appointed by the former president, they found that the lawsuit failed to adequately demonstrate the falsity of CNN’s statements.

The court’s ruling explicitly stated the former president had “failed to state a defamation claim” due to insufficient evidence of factual inaccuracy. This decision underscores the legal challenges inherent in pursuing defamation cases based on opinions or interpretations of events.

Despite the legal setback, the former president continues to maintain his unsubstantiated claims of victory in the 2020 election. This persistent narrative has been a defining feature of his political stance since leaving office.

Throughout his career, the former president has fostered a contentious relationship with numerous news organizations, frequently labeling them “fake news” and voicing strong criticisms. This pattern of conflict has often played out publicly.

This lawsuit against CNN is not an isolated incident; the former president has initiated several legal actions against media outlets, sometimes resulting in financial settlements. He recently threatened legal action against the BBC, seeking billions in damages over a disputed edit of a speech.

A separate case alleging conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results was previously dropped following his return to office. This dismissal was based on a Justice Department policy against indicting or prosecuting a sitting president, effectively concluding that investigation.
