A shocking video surfaced this weekend, revealing a Denver health inspector deliberately pouring bleach onto a taco vendor’s food. The incident, captured on camera, quickly ignited a firestorm of controversy and questions about food safety protocols.

The confrontation unfolded Saturday evening at Tacos Tacolorado, a street food stand already known to local authorities. Inspectors were responding to ongoing violations, having previously discarded over 65 kilograms of meat during earlier visits in late October.

According to officials, the vendor attempted to salvage ingredients by loading them into a truck after being ordered to destroy the food. This prompted the inspector to take the drastic step of rendering the remaining items unusable with bleach.

While the act appears extreme, Denver’s Director of Public Health Investigations, Danica Lee, defended the practice. She explained that bleach is a rarely used, but authorized, tool to prevent potentially unsafe food from reaching consumers.

The health department confirmed that bleach and even kitty litter are sometimes employed to ensure contaminated food isn’t resold. Inspection reports detailed critical issues with the vendor’s operation, including a lack of handwashing stations, improper sanitization procedures, and concerns about food temperatures.

The incident raises broader questions about food safety risks, particularly for travelers. Experts emphasize the importance of choosing food that is served hot or cold, avoiding raw items and salads, and carefully observing vendor hygiene.
