Darkness fell over southern Russia on Tuesday, shattered by the relentless hum of Ukrainian drones. A wave of attacks targeted civilian areas, transforming peaceful nights into scenes of chaos and destruction.

The assault was particularly intense in the Black Sea region, described by Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev as the “most prolonged and massive” since the conflict began. Six were injured, and the landscape was scarred by damage to seven apartment blocks and numerous homes.

Footage circulating online appeared to show kamikaze drones deliberately crashing into residential buildings in Novorossiysk, a vital port city and home to a significant Russian naval base. The images painted a grim picture of lives disrupted and structures ablaze.

The attacks weren’t confined to a single location. Coastal resort towns – Tuapse, Gelendzhik, and even Sochi, still remembered for hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics – all reported being targeted by the unmanned aerial vehicles.

Further east, in Taganrog, a port on the Sea of Azov, the night brought tragedy. Initial reports confirmed one fatality and three injuries, as drones impacted apartment buildings, a trade school, and a kindergarten.

The situation deteriorated rapidly. Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar later confirmed the devastating news: the death toll in Taganrog had risen to three, a stark reminder of the human cost of the escalating conflict.

The coordinated nature of the attacks suggests a deliberate strategy, aiming to strike at the heart of Russian territory and disrupt life far from the front lines. The scale and reach of the drone strikes represent a significant escalation in the ongoing hostilities.
