A chilling secret recording has surfaced, alleging a Campbell’s Soup Company vice president unleashed a torrent of disparaging remarks about both the company’s products and its customers. The accusations center around Martin Bally, the company’s chief information security officer, and paint a disturbing picture of internal attitudes.
The recording, secretly made by former cybersecurity analyst Robert Garza, allegedly captures Bally’s unfiltered disdain. Garza, only two months into his employment, stated he felt an unsettling feeling about Bally and decided to document a meeting discussing his salary. He believed something “wasn’t right.”
According to the recording, Bally allegedly described Campbell’s offerings as “s* for f*ing poor people,” questioning who even purchased their products. He went on to express personal reluctance to consume them, citing concerns about the ingredients and a rejection of “bioengineered meat” created through modern technology.
The allegations extend beyond product criticism, with the recording reportedly containing deeply offensive and derogatory comments directed towards minority employees. A voice attributed to Bally allegedly used hateful language and questioned the intellectual capabilities of colleagues.
Garza’s decision to record the conversation stemmed from his immediate impression of Bally’s character. He described the executive as believing his position granted him impunity, allowing him to act without consequence. The meeting left Garza feeling “pure disgust.”
After reporting the disturbing comments to his supervisor, Garza was terminated just 20 days later. He believes this was a direct act of retaliation, claiming he was “really sticking up for other people” and challenging the company’s environment.
Garza has filed a lawsuit alleging a racially hostile work environment, wrongful termination, and retaliation. He asserts that Campbell’s motto of treating employees “like family” is a stark contrast to the reality he experienced.
Campbell’s responded by placing Bally on temporary leave while conducting an internal investigation. A spokesperson condemned the alleged comments as “unacceptable” and stated they do not align with the company’s values, emphasizing pride in their food and ingredients.
The company claims they were unaware of the recording until Garza filed his lawsuit. They vehemently denied the accuracy of Bally’s alleged statements about the food, calling them “patently absurd.”
Garza reported his concerns to human resources but received no response. He endured a ten-month job search following his termination, describing Campbell’s handling of the situation as “simply terrible.” He is now seeking damages for the harm he suffered.
