JEWEL HEIST HORROR: They Drove Him to Suicide!

JEWEL HEIST HORROR: They Drove Him to Suicide!

The weight of a £1.38 million robbery fell not just on a jewellery shop, but tragically, on the shoulders of its manager, Oliver White. Just 27 years old, White endured a terrifying ordeal – bound and held in a headlock during the raid at 247 Kettles in Richmond, southwest London.

The following day, a court heard, White took his own life, a direct consequence of the trauma he experienced. More than seventy high-value watches vanished during the brazen theft on May 25th of last year, leaving a void that extended far beyond the shop’s display cases.

Kyle Mehmet, 40, from Rotherham, and Michael Holmes, 34, of Sheffield, have now been convicted of conspiracy to rob. Their guilt was established after a trial at Woolwich Crown Court, joining Mannix Pedro, 37, of Woking, who was found guilty of the same offense earlier in February.

In the immediate aftermath of the robbery, White, gripped by distress, attempted to transfer £14,000 of his own savings to his employers. This desperate act speaks to a man consumed by guilt and a profound sense of responsibility.

The trial revealed a disturbing detail: White believed he had been criticized by one of the robbers for not resisting strongly enough. This accusation, however unfounded, clearly weighed heavily on him, contributing to his spiraling despair.

After transferring the money, White vanished, unresponsive to texts and calls from loved ones. A friend eventually discovered his body in a wooded area, a place from his childhood, marking a heartbreaking end to a young life.

Oliver White Junior Kanu is the darker of the two men - other man is on the run An accused robber said to have grabbed watches worth ??2 million from salesman Oliver White the day before he hanged himself has been remanded in custody. Junior Kunu, 29, and an accomplice held Mr White, 27, in a chokehold as and restrained him with cable ties they plundered timepieces from the 247 Kettles store in Kew Road, Richmond on May 25, it is claimed. Mr White was found hanged in woodland in Shepperton, Surrey the following day. Wearing a black fleece Kunu spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth when he appeared at Bromley Magistrates Court charged with robbery. Ms Nwanneka Aik, prosecuting, said: ???The matter before the court relates to an incident that took place on 25 May 2024. ???It was a violent robbery that took place at a watch dealership in Richmond. ???Close to ??2m of watches were stolen.??? The stolen watches remain unrecovered, and a cruel irony adds to the tragedy – the shop lacked insurance, despite having been targeted by thieves three years prior. This oversight compounded the financial and emotional devastation.

A previous defendant, Junior Kunu, 31, was acquitted of conspiracy to rob, claiming the entire event was staged with the consent of all involved, including White. Kunu alleged White would have offered more resistance had he believed the robbery was genuine.

CCTV footage shown to the jury depicted the harrowing moments of the robbery: a man applying a headlock while White sat helpless, another filling a backpack with stolen timepieces. The images offered a stark and unsettling glimpse into the events that unfolded.

The conspirators initially contacted White through Instagram, posing as potential buyers, then transitioned to WhatsApp approximately three months before the robbery. They visited the shop days before the incident, feigning interest in a purchase – a calculated reconnaissance mission.

Prosecutors described an earlier attempt at robbery as ‘aborted,’ suggesting a prior, unsuccessful attempt to target the shop. Mehmet, Holmes, and Pedro now await sentencing, their actions forever linked to the tragic fate of Oliver White.
