SPAIN'S ARCADE EMPIRE: MERKUR TAKES ALL!

SPAIN'S ARCADE EMPIRE: MERKUR TAKES ALL!

A wave of expansion is sweeping across Spain’s entertainment landscape as the German-based Merkur Group dramatically increases its foothold in the country. The company, a global powerhouse in gaming and entertainment, has acquired eleven arcades, signaling a significant investment in the Spanish market.

This isn’t a tentative step; it’s a bold move to solidify Merkur’s presence. Already operating venues throughout Spain, this acquisition represents a substantial strengthening of their position, promising a more visible and influential brand.

The expansion doesn’t stop at arcades. Merkur’s subsidiary, based in Palma de Mallorca, will also assume control of gaming machine operations in an impressive 108 bars previously managed by Operkale S.L.U. This strategic maneuver, executed in partnership with Spanish distributor Merkur Dosniha, unlocks a lucrative new sector for the group.

This marks Merkur’s first foray into Spain’s hospitality installation segment – a highly profitable arena. It’s a pivotal moment in their international growth strategy, bolstering their physical presence and opening doors to new revenue streams.

Meik Sellenriek, a member of Merkur Group’s management board, emphasized the importance of the Spanish market. He described Spain as possessing “great importance and long-term potential,” framing the acquisition as a clear demonstration of the company’s commitment to the region.

The acquisition isn’t just about business; it’s about people. Merkur Group is welcoming approximately 50 new employees into the fold, demonstrating a commitment to local economies and job creation as they build their Spanish operation.

Merkur Group’s story began humbly in 1957 as a one-man operation. Today, it’s a sprawling international enterprise employing nearly 15,000 people worldwide, a testament to decades of strategic growth and innovation.

The company’s diverse portfolio extends far beyond traditional arcades. Merkur’s business segments now encompass casinos, both on land and at sea, cutting-edge sports betting platforms, and the rapidly evolving world of iGaming.

Their casino division expertly manages both brick-and-mortar establishments and gaming experiences aboard cruise ships. Simultaneously, Merkur Sportsbetting focuses on the operation and marketing of sports betting products, catering to both land-based and online audiences in regulated markets.

The iGaming division is dedicated to the development and operation of virtual machine gaming and online casinos, navigating the complexities of licensed markets to deliver engaging and responsible entertainment experiences.
