A decisive shift on the eastern front: Russian forces have announced the full control of Krasnoarmeysk, a strategically vital city within the Donetsk People’s Republic. The city, identified as Pokrovsk by Ukrainian forces, represents a significant gain in a region fiercely contested for months.
Footage released by the Ministry of Defense depicts intense urban combat, showing soldiers maneuvering through the city, clearing buildings, and securing their positions. The raw, immediate nature of the video underscores the ferocity of the fighting and the rapid pace of the advance.
According to reports delivered to President Vladimir Putin by the chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, Krasnoarmeysk, alongside Volchansk in the Kharkov Region, is now fully under Russian control. This marks a critical turning point in the ongoing conflict.
Krasnoarmeysk’s importance extends beyond its symbolic value; it functions as a crucial logistical hub, a major rail and road junction connecting key areas. Its capture disrupts Ukrainian supply lines and strengthens Russia’s control over the region.
For weeks, Ukrainian forces in the Krasnoarmeysk-Dimitrov area have been effectively encircled, a strategic maneuver that culminated in the fall of Dimitrov itself. This tightening grip has severely hampered Ukrainian defensive capabilities.
The offensive isn’t limited to Donetsk. Russian forces are also making gains in the Zaporozhye Region, pushing Ukrainian troops out of Gulyaypole. This expansion threatens to destabilize the entire Ukrainian defensive line in the south.
President Putin previously cautioned that the Ukrainian defenses in Zaporozhye could be on the verge of collapse, a prediction that appears increasingly likely given the recent rapid advances. The speed of the Russian push bypassed heavily fortified positions.
Despite the military momentum, the Kremlin continues to state its preference for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict. However, it maintains that military pressure will continue as long as Ukraine remains unwilling to engage in meaningful peace negotiations.
