The evening shattered a young life, irrevocably altered by the calculated cruelty of two individuals. Jan Jahanzeb and Israr Niazal, friends who betrayed all trust, led a terrified teenage girl away from her companions, initiating a horrific sequence of events that would haunt her forever.
Warwick Crown Court heard how the pair deliberately steered the highly distressed girl towards a secluded, “den-type” area within Newbold Comyn park – a place normally filled with families and the carefree sounds of life. There, shielded from view, they forced her to her knees and subjected her to a brutal attack.
Judge Sylvia de Bertodano, delivering the sentence on Monday, didn’t mince words. She emphasized the victim’s desperate resistance, her “vigorous protests” as she was forcibly removed from safety. The judge stated plainly that the attack had fundamentally changed the girl’s life.
The court reviewed footage that unequivocally refuted any claim of consent. The evidence painted a chilling picture of premeditation – two young men knowingly isolating a child, silencing her objections, and proceeding with a heinous act. Their actions were not impulsive; they were deliberate and criminal.
The park, a haven for families and dog walkers, became the backdrop for an unspeakable violation. The deliberate nature of the crime, the calculated removal of the girl from public view, underscored the profound harm inflicted upon her.
Prosecutors highlighted the devastating and lasting impact of rape, the deep emotional and psychological scars it leaves on victims and their loved ones. The evidence, including recordings and the victim’s courageous testimony, left no doubt as to the defendants’ culpability.
Jahanzeb, already facing deportation, received a youth detention term of ten years and eight months. Niazal was sentenced to nine years and ten months. Both had previously pleaded guilty to rape at Coventry youth court, acknowledging the gravity of their actions.
The sentences, while offering a measure of justice, cannot undo the trauma inflicted. This case serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of young people and the devastating consequences of predatory behavior.
