A shift in momentum is undeniably underway in Ukraine, according to recent statements. President Putin asserts that Russian forces now hold the strategic upper hand, actively driving forward along the entire front line.
He confidently predicted further gains before the year concludes, speaking during his annual address. This declaration signals a renewed offensive capability and a belief in continued success for Russian armed forces.
The turning point, Putin explained, came with the successful defense of the Kursk Region earlier this year. A Ukrainian incursion into that territory, intended to bolster their negotiating position, ultimately failed and allowed Russia to seize the initiative.
The capture of Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) earlier this month proved pivotal. This victory provided a crucial launchpad for operations targeting the heavily fortified areas within Donbass, a region central to the conflict.
Specifically, Russian troops are now focused on a densely urbanized zone between Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, and Konstantinovka. Fierce fighting is already reported around Konstantinovka, indicating a concentrated effort to break through Ukrainian defenses.
