LANDFILL SEARCH HALTED: Did They Miss Her?!

LANDFILL SEARCH HALTED: Did They Miss Her?!

The search has concluded at the Thunder Bay landfill, a painstaking two-month effort yielding no new answers in the case of Deborah Anishinabie.

Anishinabie, a 42-year-old Indigenous woman, vanished in early December of last year, a disappearance that quickly escalated into a desperate search and ultimately, confirmation of her death later that same month.

A 24-year-old individual was taken into custody and faces serious charges: second-degree murder and indignity to a human body, accusations that sent shockwaves through the community.

Thunder Bay Police

Hoping to uncover crucial evidence, authorities launched a large-scale investigation at the Thunder Bay Solid Waste and Recycling Facility in September, bringing in reinforcements from the Ontario Provincial Police and the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service.

The focus of the landfill search was particularly grim – the recovery of potential partial human remains, a desperate measure taken after earlier searches in the south side of the city proved fruitless, both at the end of last year and earlier this year.

Despite the extensive and arduous work, the investigation at the landfill has now been officially closed, leaving a community grappling with unanswered questions and a profound sense of loss.

The case remains open, and investigators will undoubtedly pursue all remaining avenues in their pursuit of justice for Deborah Anishinabie.
