A sophisticated gang of burglars turned a motorhome into a mobile base of operations, systematically targeting tourists and affluent areas across Spain. Their meticulously planned crimes left a trail of economic devastation, reaching nearly 200,000 euros.
Police began to unravel the operation in September, triggered by the brazen theft of £7,600 from a shopping centre safe in Elche. This initial crime quickly blossomed into a wider investigation, linking the group to a string of ten additional offenses.
The gang’s movements were tracked from their residence on the French Riviera, specifically Nice, as they journeyed westward towards the sun-drenched Costa del Sol. Authorities suspected they were preparing to exploit the region’s influx of tourists.
The four members were ultimately apprehended in Benalmádena, a popular beach resort favored by British holidaymakers. The arrest unfolded after careful surveillance, culminating in a thorough search of their unassuming mobile headquarters.
What officers discovered within the motorhome was a testament to the gang’s cunning. Hidden compartments, expertly concealed, yielded a substantial cache of stolen goods. These weren’t impulsive grabs, but carefully selected valuables.
The recovered loot included €24,000 in cash, a further €1,000 in various foreign currencies, and a rare 100-franc gold coin. High-value electronic devices and a glittering assortment of jewelry completed the illicit haul.
Investigators found the suspects were masters of disguise, each possessing multiple false identities. One individual alone had amassed an astonishing 24 different personas, complicating efforts to track their past activities.
