MADURO'S REIGN ENDING? Cuban-American Lawmaker DEMANDS Venezuela Freedom NOW!

MADURO'S REIGN ENDING? Cuban-American Lawmaker DEMANDS Venezuela Freedom NOW!

A Florida congressman, intimately familiar with the plight of Venezuelan refugees, is urgently calling for swift action towards free and fair elections in the troubled nation. Representative Carlos Gimenez, whose district pulses with the stories of those who fled Venezuela’s communist regime, insists delay is a tactic of oppression.

“Years are unacceptable,” Gimenez stated firmly. “These regimes thrive on eroding resolve, buying time while hope dwindles. We’re talking months, not years, to begin a genuine transition.” His own history fuels this urgency; he escaped a communist dictatorship as a child, finding refuge in Miami’s Little Havana.

Gimenez was among the first to be briefed following recent U.S. government actions in Caracas, which culminated in the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Both were transported to the United States to face terrorism charges brought by federal prosecutors.

The prospect of a U.S.-led interim administration, as suggested by former President Trump, underscores the gravity of the situation. Gimenez stresses that any such period must be decisively limited, focused solely on paving the way for legitimate democratic elections.

The congressman emphasized the deep longing of the Venezuelan diaspora – the millions scattered across the globe – to return home. A swift return to democracy, he believes, is the only path to realizing that dream. Their hope hinges on visible, rapid change within Venezuela itself.

Gimenez is a vocal supporter of opposition leader María Corina Machado, despite recent comments questioning her widespread support. He acknowledges the immediate challenge of establishing order, recognizing the current lack of a secure apparatus within the opposition.

“The president is right to point out the current reality,” Gimenez conceded. “No one in the opposition currently possesses the means to maintain control. But I still believe Machado would win a free and fair election.” He anticipates a complex transition, acknowledging the enduring presence of Maduro’s supporters, known as “Chavistas.”

However, Gimenez warns against complacency. While acknowledging that a significant portion of the population remains loyal to the Chavista ideology – roughly 30%, he estimates – safeguards must be implemented to prevent them from regaining control of the electoral process. The lessons of the past, he insists, must not be forgotten.

“The Chavistas have proven they will exploit democracy to dismantle democracy,” Gimenez warned. “We must ensure the abuses of the past 25 years are never repeated. Robust protections are essential to secure a truly free and equitable future for Venezuela.”
