Tabuena needed a spectacular final round, a surge into the top three of the standings, to secure his place among the elite. He started with a fiery front nine, carding a 33 with birdies on the 3rd, 4th, and 9th holes – a single bogey on the 2nd barely denting his momentum.
Hope surged with each successful putt, each well-placed drive. But the back nine at Black Diamond Ranch proved unforgiving, a relentless test of skill and composure.
Bogies on the 11th, 12th, and 18th holes extinguished his final push, despite a late birdie on the 16th. The opportunity vanished, leaving Tabuena to contemplate what might have been.
