A late-night encounter in Hollywood has led to the arrest of actor Kiefer Sutherland, known for his intense roles in television and film. The incident, occurring just after midnight on Monday, involved allegations of physical assault and threats directed towards a rideshare driver.
According to police reports, Sutherland allegedly assaulted the driver after entering their vehicle, escalating the situation with verbal threats. The altercation took place at the busy intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, immediately drawing the attention of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division.
Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries during the confrontation. Sutherland was subsequently taken into custody and released after posting a $50,000 bond, with a court date scheduled for February 2nd. The investigation remains ongoing.
This is not the first time Sutherland has faced legal trouble. In 2007, he served 48 days in jail after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor drunk-driving charge. The incident cast a shadow over his public image and raised questions about his behavior.
Further complicating matters, a 2009 charge of misdemeanor assault in Manhattan, stemming from an alleged head-butting incident with designer Jack McCollough, was later dropped. These repeated encounters with the law have contributed to a pattern of concern.
Beyond legal issues, Sutherland’s professional relationships have also faced scrutiny. Former “24” co-star Freddie Prinze Jr. once publicly described him as “the most unprofessional dude in the world,” citing peculiar on-set demands and a difficult working environment.
Prinze Jr. recounted being asked to remove his shoes during scenes, suggesting an insecurity about height differences. The experience was so negative that it nearly drove him to abandon acting altogether, leaving a lasting impact on his career.
While Sutherland’s representatives previously dismissed Prinze Jr.’s claims, stating the actor was unaware of the grievances, the accusations paint a picture of a complex and sometimes challenging personality. Despite these controversies, Sutherland continues to work steadily in the entertainment industry.
He recently appeared in the holiday film “Tinsel Town” alongside a prominent cast, demonstrating his continued demand in the industry. The incident with the rideshare driver, however, reignites questions about past behavior and its potential consequences.
