A quiet December night in Toronto shattered when paramedics urgently called police to the area of Lawrence Avenue West and Demarco Boulevard. The call came just after 10 p.m., reporting a violent assault that would leave a man with serious injuries.
Initial reports indicated two suspects were involved, allegedly approaching the victim and attacking him with a blunt object before fleeing the scene. Investigators quickly released images of both individuals, hoping the public could aid in their identification.
However, the investigation took an unexpected turn. Further scrutiny revealed evidence suggesting only one suspect was directly responsible for the assault. This focused the search, and with the help of observant citizens responding to the released images, police began to close in.
On Friday, Gregmore Osakpa Osawe, a 39-year-old man from Bradford, was arrested and faces charges of assault, assault with a weapon, and aggravated assault. Authorities have confirmed there are no other outstanding suspects in this case.
The city’s downtown core experienced a separate wave of violence just days later. Saturday brought news of two distinct stabbing incidents, each unfolding hours apart and leaving investigators scrambling to understand the circumstances.
The first stabbing occurred near Yonge and College Streets shortly before 4:30 p.m., leaving a man in his 30s wounded. Paramedics rushed the victim to hospital, the severity of his injuries initially unknown. Police swiftly arrested a suspect, and the investigation remains active.
Later that evening, around 8:30 p.m., another stabbing was reported within an apartment building in the Cabbagetown neighborhood, near Sherbourne Street and Dundas Street East. A man in his 20s was discovered with stab wounds and transported to receive medical attention.
Fortunately, the injuries sustained in the Cabbagetown stabbing were determined to be non-life-threatening. However, the suspect – described as a white female with dark hair and blond highlights, last seen wearing a black sweater, jeans, and white shoes – remains at large.
These incidents, occurring within a short timeframe and across different parts of the city, underscore a troubling surge in violent crime and have prompted increased police presence and ongoing investigations.
