Andoni Iraola, the architect behind Bournemouth’s surprising success, has firmly addressed swirling rumors linking him to Premier League giants Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. In a candid interview, he delivered a clear message of contentment to the Bournemouth faithful, stating he is “very happy” at the Vitality Stadium.
Just last season, Iraola orchestrated a historic ninth-place finish for the Cherries, shattering previous points records and establishing himself as one of the league’s most promising managers. His tactical acumen and ability to galvanize a team have quickly turned heads amongst those seeking a dynamic leader.

Despite losing key defenders – Zabarnyi, Huijsen, and Kerkez – and recently seeing star forward Semenyo depart for Manchester City in a significant transfer, Iraola remains focused on Bournemouth’s progress. “For managers, the contract isn’t that important,” Iraola explained. “I believe trust should be renewed every year. Beyond the immediate speculation, Iraola’s name has also been connected with a potential return to Athletic Bilbao, the club where he spent a significant portion of his playing career. He holds deep respect for current Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde, whom he considers a mentor, but acknowledges the unpredictable nature of opportunities in football.
“At Athletic Bilbao, they probably have the manager I admire the most in Ernesto Valverde,” Iraola admitted. “I hope he stays for many years.” Yet, he conceded that career paths often take unexpected turns, recalling his own journey through Cyprus, Spain, and ultimately, to Bournemouth.

“In general, the level of La Liga managers is very high,” Iraola stated. “Then it’s a matter of adapting to the Premier League, the language… We all come from different backgrounds.” He acknowledged the increasing globalization of the league and the intensifying competition for managerial positions.
