EDINBURGH'S PUB GAME CHANGER: WETHERSPOONS INVADES OLD TOWN!

EDINBURGH'S PUB GAME CHANGER: WETHERSPOONS INVADES OLD TOWN!

A new landmark is taking shape in the heart of Edinburgh. The former Revolution cocktail bar on Chambers Street is undergoing a dramatic transformation, poised to become the city’s newest Wetherspoons pub this July.

Work begins on March 9th, signaling the start of a £2 million refurbishment that will breathe new life into the two-story building. The ambitious project promises a substantial addition to Edinburgh’s vibrant social landscape.

The pub will be named “The William Chambers,” a tribute to the influential 19th-century Scottish publisher and politician whose name graces the street. This nod to local history adds a layer of significance to the new establishment.

Inside, a complete overhaul is planned. The existing layout will be reimagined, with a new feature entrance replacing the current ramp and a brand-new bar taking shape on the ground floor.

Below ground, the basement will also see significant changes. The existing bar will be relocated, making way for improved customer facilities, including new toilets.

Even the hidden areas of the building are being addressed. A dedicated sub-basement level will house modern staff facilities – changing rooms, restrooms, a rest area, offices, and a fully equipped kitchen and storage space.

The exterior will be equally striking, featuring elegant gold signage proclaiming “The William Chambers Wetherspoon.” New menu and events boards will complete the updated look.

Despite the extensive renovations, careful consideration is being given to preserving the building’s historic character. Originally part of the Edinburgh Dental Hospital and School, it stands near the city’s legal institutions.

The project is expected to generate around 60 new jobs, providing a welcome boost to the local economy. The pub’s location, nestled within a bustling student area, suggests a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

The William Chambers is slated to open its doors on July 21st, ready to welcome patrons from 9am to 1am, Monday through Saturday, and 11am to 1am on Sundays. It will join Wetherspoons’ existing seven locations across Edinburgh.

Wetherspoons anticipates that the new pub will quickly become a popular destination, offering its signature combination of affordable food and drink in a prime city center location.

The approval of both planning permission in November and the recent license grant by the council’s Licensing Board have paved the way for this exciting addition to Edinburgh’s social scene.
