Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) recently stated that socialists hold views that many classic children's figures are racist, including Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head.
During an appearance on the This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von podcast, Kennedy mentioned several prominent socialist figures, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who he believes share this view.
Kennedy claimed that some of these individuals think all white people are racist and that notable historical figures such as Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln, as well as Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head, are also racist.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States, with chapters in all 50 states.
The DSA's stated goals include creating a society where working people democratically run the economy and society, ensuring that human needs are met for all.
The organization also advocates for radical reforms, such as single-payer Medicare for All, defunding the police, and the Green New Deal, as part of a transition to a freer and more just life.
Prominent DSA-associated figures include Sen. Bernie Sanders and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Recently, Melat Kiros, associated with the DSA, defeated Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) in the Democratic primary for Colorado's 1st Congressional District.
Kennedy expressed his disagreement with socialist policies, stating that they advocate for a government-run economy and the surrender of personal freedom.
He contrasted his views with those of socialists, highlighting his support for free enterprise, which he believes has lifted more people out of poverty than all social programs combined.
Kennedy also criticized socialist policies on law enforcement and immigration, stating that they believe in defunding the police and Immigration Customs Enforcement.
