Hilton’s president and CEO, Chris Nassetta, didn’t hesitate when asked about the most anticipated hotel opening of 2026. Amidst plans for over a thousand new hotels this year, one project stood out: the Waldorf Astoria in London.
The project, initially announced in 2017, gained momentum in 2022 with the acquisition by British real estate firm Reuben Brothers. But this isn’t just another hotel; it’s a transformation of Admiralty Arch, a landmark steeped in history and instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with London.
Commissioned by King Edward VII as a tribute to Queen Victoria, the iconic structure was completed between 1910 and 1912. It stands as a majestic gateway between The Mall, leading to Buckingham Palace, and the vibrant Trafalgar Square.
Nassetta vividly described the building, noting that most visitors to London have likely driven beneath its two grand arches. Its storied past extends beyond its architectural significance, having served as a residence for Winston Churchill during both World Wars and as a home to James Bond author Ian Fleming.
The reimagined hotel will feature 96 rooms, embracing a “boutique luxury” aesthetic. The crown jewel will be a two-bedroom suite on the fourth-floor bridge, offering breathtaking, unobstructed views of Buckingham Palace.
Culinary excellence will be central to the experience, with Chef Clare Smyth opening Coreus, a seafood-focused restaurant. Daniel Boulud will also return to London with Cafe Boulud, an all-day French dining destination.
A rooftop bar and restaurant, designed with London’s unpredictable weather in mind, will provide stunning views of Buckingham Palace. The space will be fully enclosed, ensuring comfort regardless of the elements.
Beyond London, the Waldorf Astoria brand is expanding its global presence. New locations are planned for Tokyo, potentially by year-end, and in Sydney, overlooking the picturesque harbor.
While precise opening dates remain unconfirmed for all three locations, the anticipation is building. These projects represent not just new hotels, but the revitalization of iconic spaces and the promise of unparalleled luxury experiences.
