The St. John's County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 36-year-old woman in Florida for allegedly slapping her 6-year-old son during an Instacart grocery delivery. Surveillance footage caught the mother outside an apartment where she was heard hurling profane abuse at the child while demanding he carry some of the deliveries.
The mother, who has been identified as 36-year-old Kiah Lowery, can be seen in the footage handing the child a large, heavy case of water bottles that he is physically too small to carry. As he struggles to hold the 24-pound case, she promises him, "I'm not going to hurt you." However, when the child drops the case to the ground, she catches him and slaps him across the face.
The boy, reportedly 48 pounds, cries in pain as the mother continues to berate him, saying, "You're the worst, You're the f*ing worst." The customer who placed the order contacted police after reviewing the surveillance footage.
Lowery now faces a child abuse charge, according to a release from the St. John's County Sheriff's Office. She was released on $5,000 bail and is ordered to have no contact with the child, staying at least 500 feet away from him at all times.
The Florida Department of Children and Families and the State Attorney have also gotten involved in the case, and Instacart has permanently removed Lowery from their platform, citing zero tolerance for violence of any kind.
