A pre-dawn emergency unfolded in east London as flames engulfed a data centre on Nutmeg Lane in Blackwall. The first alarm sounded just before 5am, summoning a massive response from the London Fire Brigade.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fierce blaze concentrated in the building’s basement – specifically, a room packed with approximately 200 acid batteries. The intense heat and flames quickly overwhelmed the storage area, leading to their complete destruction.

Eight fire engines and around sixty firefighters from stations across the city – Poplar, Millwall, Plaistow, Stratford, East Ham, and Greenwich – converged on the scene to battle the rapidly escalating situation. The scale of the response underscored the potential danger posed by the burning batteries.

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at a data centre building on Nutmeg Lane in Blackwall E14.A small part of a basement battery room, storing around 200 LED acid batteries in a 13 storey building, was destroyed by fire. The Brigade's 999 Control officers received their first call about the fire at 0452 and deployed crews from Poplar, Millwall, Plaistow, Stratford, East Ham and East Greenwich fire stations. The fire was under control by 0643. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire, though substantial, was brought under control by 6:43am, preventing further spread within the data centre. Crews worked swiftly to contain the hazardous materials and secure the area, averting a potentially wider disaster.

Currently, investigators are meticulously examining the scene to determine the origin of the fire. The cause remains unknown, and a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances that led to this significant incident.
