CARTEL KINGPIN LOCKED DOWN: Justice Denies Bail in Explosive Wedding Case!

CARTEL KINGPIN LOCKED DOWN: Justice Denies Bail in Explosive Wedding Case!

A Calgary man, allegedly connected to a sprawling drug cartel, is being held as prosecutors argue he poses an ongoing threat. The case centers around Allistair Chapman, described as a “loyal soldier” within the organization led by Ryan Wedding, and the fight to keep him detained while extradition to the United States is considered.

The prosecution presented evidence suggesting Chapman directly funded a smear campaign aimed at silencing a key witness. He allegedly authorized a $10,000 payment to the owner of a website, known as Dirty News, to publish damaging information about Jonathan Acebedo-Garcia, labeling him an informant and suppressing any reporting on Wedding’s network.

Acebedo-Garcia’s fate underscores the ruthlessness of the cartel. After turning informant and cooperating with U.S. authorities, he was tragically murdered over a year ago in a Colombian restaurant, a chilling demonstration of the organization’s reach.

A provisional arrest warrant from California details five serious charges against Chapman, including conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to traffic narcotics. Prosecutors argue his willingness to carry out orders, like the payment to Dirty News, proves his continued allegiance and potential for further criminal activity.

The prosecution further emphasized Chapman’s lack of verifiable income, raising concerns he could easily re-establish contact with his alleged associates if released. They argued his parents, proposed as sureties, wouldn’t be able to effectively monitor or control his actions, despite their good intentions.

Defence counsel Noel O’Brien countered that the evidence linking Chapman to the drug trafficking operation and Acebedo-Garcia’s murder was remarkably weak. He characterized the case against his client as “flimsy” and “non-existent,” questioning the strength of the prosecution’s claims.

The judge reserved his decision, granting O’Brien time to address newly presented evidence from the prosecution. A ruling on Chapman’s detention, and whether he will be extradited to face charges in the U.S., is now scheduled to be delivered on February 27th.

For now, Chapman remains in custody, caught in a legal battle that reveals a glimpse into the dark underbelly of a powerful and dangerous drug organization.
