A chilling threat is circulating amongst teenagers in London, fueled by social media and escalating fears of violence. A planned confrontation, dubbed the ‘Hackney War,’ is being organized between students from eight different schools.
The disturbing online post explicitly encourages “violence” and even suggests bringing weapons – compasses and metal combs – to a location near a McDonald’s on Mare Street in Hackney. The planned dates for this alarming event stretch from today through July 6th.
Eight schools are named in the post, divided into opposing “red” and “blue” teams: City Academy, Cardinal Pole, Haggerston School, Urswick School, The Excelsior Academy, Bridge Academy, Mossbourne Community Academy, and City of London Academy Shoreditch Park. The post also chillingly requests footage of any resulting attacks.
A grandmother, whose grandson attends one of the schools involved, expressed desperate concern, stating she’s been met with indifference from the schools despite her pleas for parental notification. She fears a repeat of the recent stabbing at Kingsbury High School, where a similar situation spiraled into tragedy.
The planned location, a pedestrianized street, adds to the anxiety. With no cover or escape routes, any outbreak of violence could leave students vulnerable to serious injury, and even innocent bystanders at risk.
This threat emerges just days after two students were stabbed and seriously injured on school grounds in Brent, with a 13-year-old facing attempted murder charges. The incident has heightened anxieties about safety within London schools.
City of London Academies Trust has condemned the planned violence, stating that encouraging or promoting such behavior is “completely unacceptable” and “will not be tolerated.” They are actively working with parents, police, and local authorities to ensure student safety.
The Metropolitan Police are investigating the social media posts and have pledged a “robust approach” to any violence, utilizing anti-social behavior laws to prevent disorder. Increased patrols are planned in the Hackney area to reassure the community.
Authorities are emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and are working to identify those responsible for organizing the planned confrontation. The focus remains on preventing violence and ensuring the safety of all students.
