A chilling threat is circulating amongst London school children, fueled by social media and escalating fears of violence. A planned confrontation, dubbed the ‘Hackney War,’ is being organized between pupils from eight different schools.
The disturbing online post calls for a series of fights near a McDonald’s restaurant on Mare Street in Hackney, scheduled to unfold over several days. It explicitly encourages ‘violence’ and even suggests bringing weapons like compasses and metal combs.
Eight schools are named in the post, divided into opposing ‘red’ and ‘blue’ teams: City Academy, Cardinal Pole, Haggerston School, Urswick School, The Excelsior Academy, Bridge Academy, Mossbourne Community Academy, and City of London Academy Shoreditch Park. The post also demands that any resulting attacks be filmed and shared.
A grandmother, whose grandson attends one of the targeted schools, expressed deep alarm, stating she’d repeatedly contacted the schools urging them to warn parents. Her fears are heightened by recent tragedies, recalling the stabbing at Kingsbury High School and the potential for serious injury.
The location itself is a major concern. Mare Street is a pedestrianized area, offering little cover and leaving students vulnerable if violence erupts. The grandmother fears innocent bystanders could be caught in the crossfire, describing the situation as a “disaster waiting to happen.”
This alarming development comes just days after two students were stabbed and seriously injured on school grounds in Brent, with a 13-year-old facing attempted murder charges. The incident underscores a growing wave of violence impacting London’s youth.
City of London Academies Trust has condemned the planned violence, emphasizing that encouraging or promoting such behavior is “completely unacceptable.” They are actively collaborating with parents, police, and local authorities to ensure student safety and address the seriousness of the situation.
The Metropolitan Police are investigating the social media posts and working to identify those responsible. They have pledged a “robust approach” to any violence and increased patrols in the Hackney area, reassuring the community and partnering with schools and the local council.
Authorities are determined to prevent this dangerous escalation, prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of all students involved and working to dismantle the online organization fueling this threat.
