The argument began over something almost unbelievably trivial: a handful of french fries. Eighteen-year-old Lemarques Darden Jr. now faces the weight of a murder charge, accused of fatally shooting his lifelong friend, nineteen-year-old Jarvis Davis, over a shared order from a chicken restaurant.
The senselessness of the act initially struck those who knew them as a cruel joke. Family members struggled to comprehend how a disagreement over food could escalate to such a devastating outcome, shattering lives in an instant.
The tragedy unfolded after the group of friends, including Davis’s girlfriend, returned to a Fort Worth apartment following a trip to Wingstop. Witnesses reported a sudden, violent turn as a simple request for a fry transformed into a deadly confrontation.
Police allege Darden produced a handgun and shot Davis in the head when his request to share the fries was denied. The single gunshot irrevocably altered the course of both their lives, sending Davis into a desperate fight for survival.
Despite immediate medical attention, Davis succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head, a stark and brutal end to a young life.
Sherika Kennedy, Davis’s mother, is left grappling with unimaginable grief. “It’s so senseless,” she lamented, her voice heavy with sorrow. “Why?” The question echoes the disbelief and pain felt by all who knew the two young men.
Davis’s girlfriend, present during the horrific event, recounted the chilling sequence of events. She described hearing the shattering of glass, followed by the deafening report of a gunshot, all while cradling Davis in her arms.
Darden is currently held in the Tarrant County Jail, formally charged with murder. He awaits a trial date, facing the full consequences of his actions and the profound loss he has inflicted upon a family and a community.
