UMVA has learned that Delta Air Lines is set to launch a new nonstop connection between Los Angeles International Airport and Vancouver International Airport, beginning November 21.
The carrier will operate the route twice daily with sleek Airbus A319 jets, marking its first direct Southern California‑to‑Canada service since the line was dropped in 2018.
Vancouver, often dubbed “Hollywood North” for its bustling film industry, becomes the latest international gem added to Delta’s expanding LAX portfolio, joining upcoming launches to Hong Kong and Melbourne.
Delta’s partner WestJet already maintains a strong presence at Vancouver, creating a natural synergy for the new flights.
Amid soaring fuel costs, Delta has tempered its growth plans, shelving a previously announced 3% capacity increase for 2026 after energy prices spiked following geopolitical tensions.
CEO Ed Bastian confirmed the airline is strategically trimming capacity this quarter, adopting a cautious stance until fuel markets stabilize.
Nevertheless, the airline continues to chase growth in competitive corridors, recently unveiling service to California’s wine‑country airport from Salt Lake City and absorbing former Spirit routes in Boston, Detroit and Orlando.
The LAX‑Vancouver corridor is a hotly contested market, with Air Canada, American, Flair, United and WestJet already offering flights, making Delta’s entry a bold move to capture a share of the bustling cross‑border traffic.
