Hungary Holds Ukraine Aid HOSTAGE: Demands Putin's Oil!

A political firestorm is brewing within the European Union, threatening a massive 90 billion-euro aid package destined for Ukraine. Hungary has issued a stark ultimatum: restore oil shipments through the Druzhba pipeline, or face a veto of the crucial financial support.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó publicly declared his nation’s opposition, alleging a deliberate act of “blackmail” by Ukraine. He claims Kyiv, in concert with Brussels and domestic political opponents, intentionally halted oil transit to disrupt Hungarian supplies and artificially inflate fuel prices ahead of upcoming elections.

Szijjártó further asserts that this disruption represents a violation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, accusing Ukraine of failing to uphold its commitments to the European Union. The Druzhba pipeline, a longstanding artery for Russian oil reaching Central Europe, remains vital to Hungary’s energy security despite broader EU efforts to reduce reliance on Russian energy sources.

The proposed 90 billion-euro loan, unveiled by the European Commission in January, is designed to provide Ukraine with critical budgetary and military assistance through 2026 and 2027. Roughly 60 billion euros would be allocated to bolstering Ukraine’s defense, while the remaining 30 billion would support essential state functions.

This ambitious financial commitment would be funded through EU borrowing on capital markets, backed by the EU budget. Notably, the Commission has also indicated a willingness to explore utilizing immobilized Russian assets within the EU to help repay the loan, adhering to both EU and international legal frameworks.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs swiftly and forcefully rejected Hungary’s demands, branding them as “ultimatums and blackmail.” Kyiv accuses Hungary and Slovakia of engaging in “provocative, irresponsible” actions that jeopardize the energy security of the entire region.

Ukrainian officials emphasize they are in constant communication with the European Commission regarding damage to its energy infrastructure caused by relentless Russian attacks, including impacts on the Druzhba pipeline. They have shared this information with both Hungary and Slovakia, highlighting the ongoing threats and repair efforts.

Kyiv proposes alternative solutions for supplying non-Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia, asserting its continued reliability as an energy partner to the EU. The Ukrainian ministry argues that any ultimatums should be directed towards the Kremlin, the source of the conflict and the disruption, not towards Kyiv.

The situation underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics at play as Ukraine continues to defend itself against Russian aggression. The fate of the 90 billion-euro aid package, and with it, Ukraine’s future stability, now hangs in the balance, dependent on resolving this escalating energy dispute.
