HELLISH CONTROL: He Pushed Her Over the Edge – Now Faces Justice!

HELLISH CONTROL: He Pushed Her Over the Edge – Now Faces Justice!

The silence following Gillian Morand’s death in March 2020 was broken by a startling development – a charge of manslaughter. Gillian, just 36 years old, had tragically ended her own life, a loss initially ruled a suicide. Now, nearly four years later, the case has been reopened, casting a harsh light on the hidden suffering she endured.

Seyhan Assaf, 45, stands accused not only of manslaughter, but also of coercive and controlling behaviour. The Metropolitan Police’s decision to charge him stemmed from newly revealed allegations of sustained domestic abuse. Investigators believe Gillian was subjected to a prolonged period of torment, a darkness that ultimately contributed to her devastating choice.

This case is exceptionally rare, representing only the third instance in the country where a man faces manslaughter charges linked to a woman’s suicide following alleged domestic abuse. The investigation is complex, demanding a meticulous examination of the circumstances surrounding Gillian’s final days and the years leading up to them.

Man charged with manslaughter after woman?s death linked to domestic abuse Officers have charged a man with manslaughter related to an ongoing investigation into the death of a woman in Bexley. Gillian Morand passed away in March 2020, aged 36. A subsequent inquest determined she had died by suicide. Following this, information came to light around allegations of domestic abuse that Gillian had previously suffered. This led to the Met undertaking further enquiries, and an investigation was launched by detectives. On Thursday, 5 March 2026, officers arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with Gillian?s death. Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, the Met has charged Seyhan Assaf, 45 (12.11.1980) of Berwick Crescent, Sidcup with manslaughter and coercive or controlling behaviour. It is alleged Gillian was abused over a significant period of time, and it is further alleged that this abuse contributed to her death. Assaf will appear at Bromley Magistrates? Court on Saturday, 7 March. Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, from the Metropolitan Police Service, said: ?This is a complex investigation with very few charges of this nature authorised across the country. ?We are supporting Gillian?s family, who ask for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time. ?I ask that anyone who was in contact with Gillian in the decade prior to her death contact us. Any information, irrespective of how insignificant it may seem, may be of considerable value.? Information can be passed to our investigation team via our Major Incident Public Portal or by calling 101 and quoting CAD number 4727/06MAR26. Samantha Yelland, Senior Crown Prosecutor in CPS London Homicide Unit said: "We have decided to prosecute Seyhan Assaf with manslaughter and controlling or coercive behaviour. "This decision comes after working closely with the Metropolitan Police as they have carried out their investigation into the death of Gillian Morand. ?Our prosecutors worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring these charges to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.? Detectives are now appealing for anyone who had contact with Gillian in the decade before her death to come forward. Even seemingly insignificant details could prove crucial in building a complete picture of her life and the pressures she faced. The police emphasize the importance of every piece of information, no matter how small it may seem.

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the decision to pursue criminal proceedings after a thorough review of the evidence. Senior Crown Prosecutor Samantha Yelland stated that sufficient evidence exists to bring the charges to court and that prosecution is in the public interest. This signifies a growing recognition of the profound impact abusive relationships can have, extending beyond physical harm.

Assaf, from Sidcup, is scheduled to appear in Bromley Magistrates’ Court. As the legal process unfolds, Gillian’s family has requested privacy during this incredibly difficult time. Their grief is compounded by the reopening of wounds and the painful search for answers.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the insidious nature of domestic abuse and its potential for devastating consequences. It highlights the urgent need for awareness, support for victims, and accountability for perpetrators, even when the tragedy unfolds in the quiet desperation of a life lost to despair.
