Eighteen months after a brazen morning shooting in North York, a 43-year-old woman now faces a second-degree murder charge. The arrest follows a complex international pursuit, culminating in her extradition from Jamaica back to Canadian soil.
The shooting unfolded just before 7:30 a.m. on September 30th, shattering the quiet of a plaza at Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue West. First responders arrived to find a man already lifeless, the victim of a calculated act of violence.
That man was identified as 42-year-old Anthony McBean. Investigators quickly focused on two suspects, believing they held the key to unraveling the deadly event and bringing McBean’s killer to justice.
By November 2024, police publicly released the identities and images of both wanted individuals. Intelligence suggested both suspects had fled Canada, seeking refuge in Jamaica, complicating the investigation significantly.
The breakthrough came this past weekend with the arrival of Debbie Jones, 43, of Toronto. Extradited from Kingston, Jamaica, she was immediately taken into custody and formally charged with McBean’s murder. A bail hearing was scheduled swiftly following her return.
However, the investigation remains active. Ricardo Manuel Bailey, 37, the second suspect, is still at large and believed to be in Jamaica. He is described as having a thin build and a shaved head.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Bailey’s whereabouts, or any details surrounding McBean’s death, to come forward. The pursuit of justice continues, seeking to bring all those responsible for this tragedy to account.
