A young woman’s life was irrevocably altered in Markham on February 19th, struck by a vehicle that then carried her for an unimaginable 50 metres along its hood. The 19-year-old pedestrian remains in critical condition at a trauma centre, fighting for recovery after the brutal hit-and-run.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Denison Street and Featherstone Avenue at 3:41 p.m. Investigators are urgently seeking any information, particularly from drivers with dashcam footage – especially those with continuous recording systems like those found in Tesla vehicles – who may have been in the area.
Newly released video depicts the harrowing moments of the collision and traces the suspect vehicle’s escape route. The vehicle is identified as a 2016 to 2020 Aegean Blue, four-door Honda Civic, equipped with winter tires. The driver brazenly entered oncoming traffic to run a red light at Middlefield Road before turning northbound and speeding eastbound on Highglen Avenue.
Authorities are emphasizing that assisting the suspect in any way – concealing the vehicle, repairing damage, or altering its appearance – is a serious criminal offense, punishable by law. Anyone involved in such actions could face charges as an accessory after the fact.
In a separate incident, a victim in Markham was the target of a calculated carjacking on March 3rd. While assessing damage after being intentionally rear-ended by a white sedan on Highway 407 near Warden Avenue, the victim was assaulted by two individuals who then stole his Black Rolls Royce.
A third suspect followed in the white sedan as the Rolls Royce was driven away. The victim sustained minor injuries, but the brazen nature of the theft is raising concerns. Descriptions of the suspects are limited to being male.
Meanwhile, in Hamilton, three individuals from Peel Region are facing charges related to a robbery and shooting on March 3rd. Two victims arrived at Concession Road 6 E. and Centre Road intending to sell vape pens, only to be robbed of their merchandise and their vehicle.
During the robbery, a single shot was fired from a firearm, though thankfully no one was injured. The stolen vehicle was quickly recovered in Peel Region. Due to the ages of the accused at the time of the incident, their identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding these incidents, urging anyone with knowledge to come forward. Every detail, no matter how small it may seem, could be crucial to bringing those responsible to justice.
