Faizaan Awan would never experience the milestone of his seventeenth birthday. Instead, the quiet hours just after 4:20 a.m. on March 6th, 2025, became the final moments of his young life, cut short by gunfire on a desolate road in Stoney Creek.
The first frantic 911 calls reached Hamilton Police, reporting a shooting near the intersection of Highway 8 and Fruitland Road. Officers arrived to a chaotic scene: two vehicles, a white Kia sedan and a red Acura SUV, locked together in a collision just east of the intersection.
Behind the wheel of the Acura lay Faizaan, just sixteen years old, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a family and a community grappling with unimaginable loss.
Investigators quickly determined this wasn’t a random act of violence. Faizaan, a resident of York Region, had been relentlessly pursued for kilometers before the shooting began. The motive for this desperate chase, and why it ended in tragedy, remained shrouded in mystery.
The scene revealed a more complex picture than initially met the eye. Beyond the damaged Acura and Kia, a stolen silver Infiniti was later discovered, confirmed as another participant in the high-speed pursuit. Police believe other vehicles were also involved, yet to be identified.
Two other occupants were inside the Acura during the attack. One received a minor gunshot wound and received medical attention. Both passengers have been interviewed, but crucial details remain elusive.
For a year, homicide detectives have meticulously reviewed countless hours of video footage and conducted numerous witness interviews. Their investigation suggests multiple firearms were used in the attack, but the weapons themselves have not been recovered, hindering their progress.
Detectives believe that individuals possess vital information about the events leading up to Faizaan’s death, and the reasons behind this targeted attack. Yet, these individuals have remained silent, leaving a grieving family without answers.
In 2025, Hamilton saw seven murders, with arrests made in all cases except Faizaan’s. While the city’s murder rate had decreased from the alarming highs of 2021, this single unsolved case casts a long shadow, a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring pain of unanswered questions.
The search for truth continues, and investigators urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and help bring justice for Faizaan Awan.
