HE SHOOTS, HE SCORES… & His Past EXPLODES!

The echoes of tragedy still resonated for Colin Dorgan, a young hockey player in Rhode Island, just weeks after witnessing unimaginable horror. His transgender father was responsible for a devastating shooting in the stands during one of his games, claiming the lives of three family members.

Yet, amidst profound grief, Colin found himself on the precipice of a remarkable triumph. He had the opportunity to lead his high school team, the Blackstone Valley Schools Co-op, to the state’s Division 2 championship final.

The pressure was immense, but Colin rose to the occasion. In a heart-stopping overtime period, he broke away from the defense, skillfully sliding the puck past the Portsmouth goalie and into the net.

An eruption of joy followed, as his teammates and coaches flooded the ice, engulfing him in a jubilant celebration. It was a moment of pure elation, a beacon of hope emerging from the darkness.

The shooting occurred on February 16th at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket. Robert Dorgan, also known as Roberta Esposito, opened fire, shattering lives and leaving a community reeling.

Among those tragically killed were Colin’s mother, Rhonda, and his brother, Aidan. His grandfather, Gerald, initially injured, succumbed to his wounds days later, deepening the family’s sorrow.

Colin’s grandmother, Linda, and a family friend, Thomas Geruso, were also critically injured in the attack. The Rhode Island Interscholastic League temporarily suspended all play in the wake of the devastating event.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Colin described the game-winning goal as a “surreal moment.” He spoke of hearing the crowd and the incredible feeling of accomplishment.

He dedicated his performance to his lost loved ones, proudly displaying their initials on his jersey as a poignant tribute. It was a visible symbol of his enduring love and remembrance.

“It was the greatest moment of my life,” Colin shared, emphasizing the importance of unity and support during this incredibly difficult time. “We have to stick together… we have each other’s back and we truly love each other.”

His coach, Chris Librizzi, was visibly moved by the moment, admitting to shedding tears of joy. He knew, as he watched Colin break free, that victory was within reach.

The championship game, a testament to resilience and determination, is scheduled to take place in Providence on March 18th. It represents not just a sporting event, but a powerful symbol of healing and hope for a community forever changed.
