The Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice was forced off the field with a hamstring injury during England's comeback win against DR Congo, but he remains optimistic about recovering in time for their next match.
Rice was seen holding a large pack of ice on his left hamstring on the bench and has been managing the issue since Christmas. However, he insisted that he will be ready for England's next match against Mexico, which kicks off at 1am BST on Monday morning.
'I'm fine. Good as gold. Good,' Rice said in an interview after the match. He attributed his injury to the hot conditions during the game, stating that it was 'tough' and 'bodies had been through a lot'.
Rice also reflected on his experience playing at right back during the match, admitting that it was not his strongest position but was willing to do anything for the team and manager. He stated that he had played in the position a few times this season and was determined to do his best, despite the challenges.
Despite the injury, Rice expressed his confidence in recovering in time for the next match and seemed to be focusing on the positives from the game, stating that 'let's see what happens next game but hopefully I don't have to be at right back.'
